Volleyball in the Lower Hudson Valley

UPDATED: Checking in on the tournament circuit

There’s nothing like using a tournament to kick the season into high gear. A full days worth of volleyball will whip any player into shape and give the opportunity to look at the competition as well as who works on the court together.

In Rockland, Clarkstown North will be the host of a tournament including county rivals Albertus Magnus and Pearl River and class AA rival Scarsdale. As a ringer, Middletown will also be participating.

All the teams will have the opportunity to face each other in pool play and then will be followed by playoff games and finally a championship.

The first and second place teams will get plaques and the winning team will get individual medals as well.

Albertus Magnus and Pearl River will be in competition for top-seeding in class B (facing each other on 9/19 and 10/15).

Middletown comes out of Section 9 and residing in Class AA – the only time they will meet any of these teams again would be in regionals or states.

The tournament will be in the Clarkstown North gym at 9 a.m.

Clarkstown South will be up in Burnt Hills (outside Albany) for a big tournament with many state finalists from last season. This should provide some good competition for South.

Tappan Zee and Nanuet will be attending the Sleepy Hollow tournament Saturday pending the weather. It starts at 9 a.m.

Yorktown is hosting a tournament on Saturday and Pelham’s tournament was pushed until Sunday in case of inclement weather. Both tournaments are scheduled to start at 9 a.m.

Check back this weekend for an update on the tournaments.
