Haldane wins

November
1

Hey everyone, I’m back. A big thanks to Jeff for posting for me following Haldane’s 3-0 win over Keio. Somehow, by leaning up against one of the doors leading outside from the gym, I was able to get a signal just long enough to get the call in…

Anyway, Haldane won it’s fifth straight Section 1 title, according to co-coach Ashley Murphy, who played on the 2004 team. Senior Avery Zuvic and junior Irina Impellittiere, two of the only returning players from last year’s undefeated squad led the way. Zuvic had six kills, four aces, three blocks and nine digs, while Impellittier had 11 kills, including a couple big ones in the second set.

That second game was tight as Keio led 21-16 before Haldane came back to win 25-23. The Blue Devils won the first game 25-11 and the third and final game 25-18.

Onto the regional finals for Haldane, the defending Class D champions. Great job by Keio hanging in there, especially after a lop-sided first game. The Unicorns have made three straight finals now in Class D and return all but two players next year.

Okay, time to run back to the gym to check out the action in the Class AA final. Suffern won a tight close game and leads 1-0 over Arlington.

Keep it tuned here for updates all day.
