3:39 p.m. – Chateaugay takes it 25-20. They advance to tomorrow’s final to face Portville at 10 a.m.

3:38 p.m. – Chateaugay has a match point. 24-19. Haldane keeps it alive with a dink over the net. 24-20.

3:36 p.m. – It’s 20-18 Chateaugay right now but the Blue Devils aren’t going down without a fight. Make that 21-18 with a big kill from Annie Smith.

3:32 p.m.- Haldane’s making a comeback. 16-14.

3:27 p.m. – The Blue Devils have brought the game within one at 11-10.

3:22 p.m. – Haldane is hurting themselves out there on the floor with a lot of simple mistakes. They have to find their rhythm. The Westlake girls are showing support in the stands cheering for the Blue Devils. Classy move Wildcats!

3:18 p.m. – Chateaugay is up 5-1.

Final records: Portville 6-0, Haldane 2-4, Chateaugay 2-4, Candor 2-4

Candor is knocked out of the running.

Chateaugay came out on top 25-9 in the tie break. They now face Haldane…who looks ready to go.

Candor and Chateaugay are going to play a one-game tie-breaker and the winner will face Haldane in a winner take all battle for the championship.

Candor and Chateaugay split but it looks like they are going to play a tie break. Update to come.

Haldane needs a split but Candor easily took the first game over Chateaugay. It’s going to be an interesting afternoon.

1:45 p.m. – Haldane was able to last one more point but fell 25-16. They are 2-4 in pool play and now Candor and and Chateaugay have to split their match or Haldane is out of the finals.

1:44 p.m. – Match point for Portville… 24-15… this could be it for Haldane.

1:39 p.m. – The Panthers lead 18-12.

1:32 p.m. – Haldane is down 8-4 but playing much better.

1:25 p.m. – Haldane drops the first game to Portville 25-17 and it wasn’t even close. The Panthers had a lock on this game. The Blue Devils have to split this match to avoid a potential three way tie for the challenger spot in the final.

1:18 p.m. – Portville leads 18-12 and the game isn’t as close as the score indicates. The Blue Devils haven’t been able to find much of an offense this game and the Panthers are dominating on the court.

1:13 p.m. – The Panthers have increased their lead to 11-7 and still have the serve. Time out was called by the Blue Devils. Haldane needs to find their groove to stay in this championship.

1:12 p.m. - Portville has a 8-7 lead.

1:04 p.m. – I’m still here – though barely. It’s cold here in the civic center. Haldane is taking the floor against Portville. The Blue Devils need these wins to advance so let’s hope they can pull it out.

The Panthers pulled it out 25-20.

Portville is now 4-0; Chateaugay is 1-3, Haldane is still 2-2 and Candor is 1-3.

Haldane and Portville will battle it out next in what looks to be a preview of the state final tomorrow.

Portville is on the brink of winning but Chateaugay is fighting back. It’s 24-20 and the Bulldogs have the serve. The Panthers just need one side out.

Portville had a 22-8 lead but Chateaugay is making an impressive comeback bringing the game to 24-16. Portville takes the first game 25-16.

11:50 a.m. – Haldane splits with Candor after falling 25-17 in the second game.

That makes Haldane 2-2, Candor 1-3, Portville 2-0, and Chateaugay 1-1.

Chateaugay and Portville play next round.

11:47 a.m. – Haldane is making a comeback with some great serving and hitting and solid pressure at the net. Candor still leads 22-16 but the Blue Devils have the serve.

11:39 a.m. – There are holes the size of canyons in the Haldane defense and Candor seems to be able to find them all the time. It’s 14-8. The Blue Devils are up to serve.

11:36 a.m. – Candor has a 9-6 lead over Haldane. The Blue Devils need to pull it together.

11:25 a.m. – Game point for Haldane. The Blue Devils lead 24-10 but Candor pulls out a big kill and gets the serve back. 24-11 and a tip over the net give Haldane the win. 25-11.

11:22 a.m. – Haldane is completely dominating Candor. They have an 18-9 lead and the serve.

11:18 a.m. – Rina Colamarino is coming up huge in the back row for Haldane. They have a 10-4 lead over Candor.

11:12 a.m. – They are starting now. Both teams are in royal blue so let’s hope now one gets them mixed up.

Candor gets the first point. 1-0

Update: Portville closed out Candor and then Haldane will have the opportunity to face Candor.

So while we’re between games… I thought I’d let you know about the teams Haldane is up against.

Chateaugay is 20-0. They made it to states last year but didn’t advance out of pool play. They have a solid lineup with six returning seniors from last years team.

Candor is 16-4. They won the state championship in 2006. The Indians are definitely considered an underdog here at states.

Portville is 19-4 and had to beat Randolph (the state championship who beat Haldane in 2005/2006). They finally pulled out a victory over Randolph this season and are ready to claim a title.

Haldane has some heavy competition ahead of them, that’s for sure.

Portville just won the first game against Candor as well, 25-13.

9:50 a.m. – I stand corrected…. the teams play each other only twice. So Haldane went 1-1 with Chateaugay. They play Candor next at 11 a.m.

Candor and Portville are on the court now, so I will be back as soon as Haldane hits the floor.

9:45 a.m. – Blue Devils go down in game 2 25-19.

9:45 a.m. - The Blue Devils made an interesting comeback at 23-18 but it’s not going to be enough to pull out the game.

9:40 a.m. – Megan Barcavage gave Haldane a little boost with three service points. It’s 18-12 right now, the Blue Devils have the serve back with Avery Zuvic serving.

9:35 a.m. – The Blue Devils cannot find their groove. They are making big mistakes and there are too many holes on the court. Haldane is down 16-8.

9:31 a.m. – Haldane is having some rotation issues and is giving the Bulldogs some easy points. They are down 12-5.

9:28 a.m. – The Blue Devils allowed Chateaugay to gain an 8-4 lead and are having trouble coming back

9:20 a.m. -Haldane easily pulled out the first game 25-15. The Blue Devils look to be pretty comfortable on the court despite the relatively early hour and yesterday’s long drive.

9:12 a.m. – The Blue Devils are up at commanding 16-7 lead. Victoria Demarais is serving. They just lost the serve it’s 17-8.

9:06 a.m. – I just wanted to give you some back round on pool play. There are four teams here in Glens Falls from Class D. They will face off in best of three matches. Best two teams will meet tomorrow in the final at 10 a.m.

9:03 a.m. – Sorry for the delay. A little issue with the wireless and outlets and all other press related dramas. Haldane is facing off against Chateaugay. Haldane is up 4-2 right now.
