No team has been more dominant than Pelham in Class B, or perhaps even the section as a whole, over the last three years. The Pelicans, who have won the last two section and region titles in said class, are riding a 28-match winning streak against Section 1 opponents. The team last loss in a five-set contest to Ursuline on October 11, 2011.
That streak will be put to the test on Thursday, when Pelham travels to Panas to face the reigning Class A section and region champs. The Panthers, who returned most of their squad while the Pelicans took a huge hit to graduation, pose arguably the biggest threat to Pelham’s impressive winning streak of any team on the schedule.
The Pelicans will be led by senior Megan Krause, who was named the Con Edison Scholar Athlete of the Week on Wednesday, an award former teammate and current Yale student Helen Gandler won last year. My colleague Jermaine Dennis (@TheRealJDennis) is doing the feature on her that will run on Saturday. I will post it here for your convenience.
