There was little Brigitte Burcescu didn’t accomplish last year — from single game records, to single season records, to section titles, to regional titles, to state recognition — the hitter did it all in her junior year.
Now a senior, Burcescu is picking up right where she left off. Panas notched two impressive victories to start its season this year — sweeping Ursuline in a rematch of last year’s section final, and sweeping Pelham to snap the Pelicans’ 28-match win streak against Section 1 opponents.
The two sweeps make her stat line of 45 kills, 20 digs and eight aces all the more impressive. Burcescu, who recorded 20-plus kills in each match, averaged 7.5 kills per game during the week, which would work out to pace that would give the Northeastern bound hitter more than 400 kills in the minimum amount of games during the regular season.
Panas coach Joe Felipe said he expects Burcescu to “shatter” her older sister Vivian’s career kills record. If she could stay on anything resembling this pace, that task should be no problem.
