It took two weeks but Ardsley made sure its first match was worth the wait.
Nicolina Chenard had 12 kills and three aces for the visiting Panthers in a 25-21, 12-25, 25-12, 25-22 win over Byram Hills Tuesday.
It was Chenard’s first match back since cracking her vertebrae midseason last year.

The Panthers didn’t have a scheduled match the first week of the season and last Wednesday’s match against Westlake was postponed due to the high heat index.
Going into the match, Ardsley coach Dave Ponterio was confident that his players were conditioned, but he was also aware of the challenges of a season opener.
“I was concerned about pressure,” Ponterio said. “You can’t duplicate that in a scrimmage or practice. Two officials are there during a game making sure everything is played the way it’s supposed to be.”
Ardsley’s Hayley Kmetz added 10 kills and six aces while teammate Megan Canfield dished out 23 assists.
“Megan did a really nice job on the offense,” Ponterio said. “I liked her choices. I like the hitters she picked to swing. It was a well-balanced attack.”
Guin Mesh and Kamilla Tatka each had eight kills for the Bobcats (2-1), who Ponterio said put the ball down well and had good passing. Teammate Maddie Brown had 26 assists.
Ponterio would like to see his team shift its focus to less hitting errors between attacks.
“We have some serious goals like putting the ball where the defense isn’t and consistently serving and hitting well,” Ponterio said.
