Rockland County is kind of like the redheaded stepchild when compared to Westchester in terms of high school sports. With just a fraction of the teams their neighbors to the south have, it’s easy to overlook Rockland. Not on Thursday.
Almost all of the Rockland teams will be in action against one another — and in some pretty good matches, too. Nyack at North Rockland should be a competitive one, but I think Albertus Magnus at Clarkstown South will be the game to watch in all of Thursday’s contests.
The two played pretty evenly at South’s preseason tournament on August 30, but then again South was without 6-foot-1 middle Nastasia Kapustin. Her presence on the court Thursday should be a key factor. I think both teams know how important this contest is for each other.
I’m saying Albertus Magnus takes it in four, very close games, 25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22.
