There will be no shortage of #LoHudVolleyball on Monday, with two dozen matches scheduled to keep my night in the office busy and your Twitter feeds full. I’m tabbing Monday’s schedule, “Road Warriors,” since I’m picking 15 visiting schools to emerge victorious.
John Jay-East Fishkill is not one of those teams. The Patriots (4-1) will travel to The Crop (I guess that works as a name for the fan section and gym, right?) to take on undefeated Yorktown in what is, in my opinion, an obvious “match of the night” selection. The Huskers (5-0) are coming off massive wins against John Jay-Cross River and Panas last week, as well as a great showing at their host tournament on Saturday.
Yorktown, if it hasn’t already, can cement itself in the eyes of any doubters as a perennial powerhouse in Class A with a win over the Class AA finalists. Given that it is a home match, and knowing that Yorktown has one of the best home crowds in Section 1, I’m saying the Huskers take it in four, 19-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-22.
Aside from the East Fishkill-Yorktown marquee match, there are a ton of other notable matches to keep an eye on. My “little sister” MOTN is a battle of two undefeated squads looking to prove they are the real-deal this season. Ardsley (3-0) will travel to New Rochelle, where the Huguenots (5-0) will look to notch their first huge win of the year. I have Ardsley in four; but we’ll see what New Ro is made of come Monday night. The Huguenots have a big week ahead of them.
Other notable matches in Westchester include: Pelham at Eastchester, Hen Hud at Westlake and Ursuline at Scarsdale. In Rockland, Clarkstown North at Albertus Magnus appears to be a small favorite for the top match, although Clarkstown South at Nanuet should be interesting, as the Golden Knights took a game from Ardsley last week.
Here’s the complete schedule, along with my predictions. Barring an incredibly awful night of picking, I should hit correct pick No. 100 tonight.
