There will be some tremendous volleyball on display to end the work week. Three undefeated teams will put their blemish-free records on the line, while other top schools will look to separate themselves from the rest of the pack.
I will be at Ursuline to watch the Koalas host New Rochelle, in what will feature a pretty fun storyline in addition to a pretty good volleyball match. Huguenots coach Alyssa Patti will return to her alma mater to take on the team she once played for. Koalas coach Gigi Kemp wasn’t her coach at the time, but it’s still a fun coincidence.
However, that is not my “match of the night” for Friday. That honor belongs to Scarsdale, which will host Pelham at 4:15 p.m. The undefeated Raiders take on the two-time reigning Class B section and regional champion Pelicans, who have lost just once this year.
Despite a heavy loss to graduation, the Pelicans still return a group that overpowers teams with strong serving. While it lost some offense, Pelham looks like it has vastly improved its defense. I saw Scarsdale briefly at the Hen Hud tournament; after predicting Scarsdale to do big things last year, it looks like this may be the year the Raiders live up to the expectations.
Dobbs Ferry and Ardsley put their undefeated streaks on the line against White Plains and Eastchester, respectively. Kennedy, an undefeated local team in the CHSAA, goes up against Sacred Heart.
