I meant to post this last night since Sundays are usually slow, but got a little caught up with some other work.
On the first of the month, we received the monthly traffic report for September and I wanted to share the results with you, and thank you. The volleyball blog generated 21,750 page views last month, which was good enough to claim a spot in the top 10 among all LoHud blogs — sports or otherwise.
When the blog was relaunched last October, mere days before the start of the section tournament, we were only getting about 25-50 views a day — mainly because, well, nobody knew about it. I figured the beginning of this season may be a little slow until word starting spreading, so to hit 20K in its first full month back is, in my opinion, incredible.
I wanted to thank all of you readers — both habitual and occasional. Without you, this blog is obsolete. I have set two goals for October — one realistic goal and one reach goal. Now that the blog has some sort of a following, and given that the section tournament will be starting sooner than we know it, I think that getting 25,000 views is more than an attainable goal. Reaching for the stars, I would love to hit that 30,000-view plateau.
I’ve had the pleasure of overhearing a few parents and fans at tournaments say how much they love the coverage LoHud gives to the sport, citing the blog in particular. They had no idea who I was or even that I was standing there, which means I know it wasn’t just to toot my horn.
My goal is just to give the sport as much coverage as possible, with the best coverage as possible. As a guy who loves bowling, a sport that gets little-to-no attention on any level — high school, college or professional, I know that it’s easy for volleyball to be pushed aside with other mainstream sports such as football and soccer in the same season. Hopefully this blog can serve as something to help put volleyball’s mark on the map a little bigger.
Thank you again for all your continued support!
