Even though they’ve both graduated high school, the Flaherty sisters are still making noise on the volleyball courts. While Rachel heads the Sleepy Hollow… Headless Horsemen (I should’ve seen that one coming), her younger sister Kelsey is making waves on the college circuit at Saint Michael’s College in Vermont. The former state champ earned her fourth consecutive Honor Roll selection this week. Here’s the press release from SMC:
COLCHESTER, Vt. — Saint Michael’s College women’s volleyball sophomore Kelsey Flaherty (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, Oct. 6, earning the award for the fourth straight week.
Flaherty (pictured right) posted a match-best 14 kills during her team’s only match last week, a 3-0 loss to Stonehill College on Friday, while adding eight digs and two assists. Through 13 matches this season, Flaherty leads the team in kills (136), which is five kills shy of her total as a first-year, and is third on the team in digs (120). She is sixth in the NE-10 in kills per set (2.96). With a .233 hitting percentage, Flaherty is hitting 105 points higher than she did as a first-year.
HAVE A COLLEGE STORY? If you know of anyone on the local college scene (College of New Rochelle, Iona, Manhattan, Manhattanville, Purchase, Rockland CC, Westchester CC, etc.) or a local player elsewhere that is earning accolades, please let me know, and I’ll be happy to post something.
