Personally, last night was an awful night to be off. Between having 30 matches on the slate that I wasn’t able to keep track of and then not having Internet when I got back home from bowling to upload everything, it was just bad scheduling. (Our team getting crushed 19.5-5.5 didn’t help matters, either.)
We’re back to a somewhat normal day of volleyball, with just over a dozen matches scheduled. I’m tabbing Lakeland at Somers as my “match of the night” because, to be honest, I don’t want to keep picking the usual suspects (Panas, John Jay, Yorktown, etc.); in theory, they could be the MOTN every night. I think John Jay at Arlington has the most riding on it out of these matches, but Lakeland-Somers should be a competitive one.
The Hornets are a scrappy bunch that don’t really reflect their 6-7 record accurately, while the Tuskers (10-2) are in the midst of a complete turnaround season under first-year coach Sarah Benischek (who is an alum of Lakeland, by the way). That last tidbit is another reason I went with this match.
Here’s the complete schedule, along with my predictions:
Wednesday, October 16
Brewster at Yorktown, 4:15 p.m.
Mahopac at Carmel, 4:15 p.m.
Pawling at Peekskill, 4:15 p.m.
Hen Hud at Panas, 4:15 p.m.
North Salem at Putnam Valley, 4:15 p.m.
Lakeland at Somers, 4:15 p.m. — Match of the night
Westlake at Valhalla, 4:30 p.m.
Rye at Briarcliff, 4:30 p.m.
Harrison at Blind Brook, 4:30 p.m.
