Been swamped with the Section 1 high school tournament the last week, but now that things have calmed down, I wanted to pass along this awards announcement on Pelham grad Tori Bowser, who was named ECC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season at Queens College on October 28. Here is the press release from the Knights’ athletic department:
CENTRAL ISLIP — Queens College freshman volleyball player, Tori Bowser, earned another superlative in her first season in Flushing, as she was named East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for Volleyball, it was announced on Monday, by the league office. This is the second such award for Bowser (pictured right), who captured the same prize on September 30. Bowser joins Dowling College neophyte, Katarzyna Klocek as the only two players to win this award multiple times this season.
In a pair of games for the Knights last week, the Pelham, New York native, averaged 10.5 kills and posted an impressive, .528 attack percentage in a win over Mercy and five-set loss to Bridgeport. Against the Mavericks, Bowser accounted for nine points and had eight kills. More impressively, versus the Purple Knights, the freshman posted 13 kills, had three blocks and scored 15 points.
