As I said numerous times during the regular season, I really want to try and keep an eye on the locals during club season. If any of you would like to send me results, please e-mail me at email@example.com and I’ll post something as soon as I can.
Here’s a quick look at some of the results I’ve seen and/or heard about:
— Oxygen Volleyball Club, which predominately features players from Yorktown HS, won the American Turner Club tournament in the 15 Green division. The 16 Warriors team, coached by longtime Huskers coach Charlie DiVico, took silver for Oxygen.
— Downstate Volleyball Club traveled to Lancaster, Penn. for the annual Martin Luther King Kickoff Classic and had five of its eight teams place in the top five. The 17 Black team placed the highest of the teams, grabbing silver in its division. Other top finishers were 18 Black (3rd), 15 Black (3rd), 14 Black (4th) and 16 Black (5th). Other teams who participated, but did not place in the top 10 were 18 Red (11th), 16 Red (17th) and 17 Red (33rd).
High school fans should see plenty of familiar faces on the 17 Black team, which features players that include, but are not limited to: Maddie Brown of Byram Hills, Caroline Erb of Kennedy, Tess Judge of Croton-Harmon, Lindsay Kim of Blind Brook, Hayley Kmetz of Ardsley and Shannon McKeon of Ursuline.
Check out the Downstate team page to see rosters for all of the aforementioned teams and others playing for the club.
As always, send me anything noteworthy involving local girls (or boys) during the offseason — club results, college offers, college commits, etc. Either I’ll post it immediately, or I’ll hold it until I can put together a bigger post. Enjoy the club season!
— USANY, an AAU team, took home All-Tournament Team honors at the Big House College Classic in Florida. John Jay-East Fishkill all-state hitter Megan Theiller and Yonkers standout Kristella Morina were named to the all-tournament team from USANY.
Here is a clip of USANY’s come-from-behind victory in the final game of the tournament:
