The Tigers are having a modest season, but don’t appear to be the section-title contenders they were a few years ago; she suffered a leg injury which nearly ended the final weeks of her senior year; then, after making back in time for sections, she nearly suffered another injury.
Judge (pictured right, far left, after winning a beach volleyball tournament in California) landed on a Saunders player’s foot in the second game of Croton-Harmon’s four-game Section 1 Class C first-round win over the eighth-seeded Blue Devils, but returned to finish off a stellar performance.
Judge finished with a match-high 27 kills, advancing the ninth-seeded Tigers to face top-seeded defending champs Dobbs Ferry in the quarterfinals. Croton-Harmon has made it a habit of spoiling the fun for high seeds at the Section 1 tournament; two years ago, it eliminated No. 2 Blind Brook as a 7-seed before falling in the championship to Kennedy Catholic.
The Journal News will name a new player of the week each Sunday. Fans and players can nominate hopefuls via email or Twitter by tagging me (@Zacchio_LoHud) and using the hashtag #POTW.
List the performance(s) you felt were worthy of their selection and I will consider all nominees, along with a list of players I took note of during the week. Please submit all nominations by Saturday night, so that I can properly prepare the post on Sunday.
