SUFFERN — Whenever I do get the chance to see boys volleyball — whether that’s the one local match a year or watching warmups at the state semifinals — I’m puzzled at how there isn’t more participation in Section 1. More competition would grow the sport and strengthen the section, but I digress.
Suffern was swept by Bethlehem in the Division I state regional semifinal at home on Wednesday in front of a very supportive Mounties crowd. Suffern has now been eliminated by the Eagles in each of the past five seasons. I’ve attached links to my game story and the photo gallery, and I’ve included video from the match, as well a heartwarming photo I snapped after the match.
After the match, Suffern boys coach Kim Cleary’s son Patrick congratulated the team on a terrific 13-1 season.
Hey, at least the night wasn’t a total loss for the Suffern… or at least one Mountie.
