Bowser (pictured right), a sophomore at Queens College, has been selected to be a member of the USA Athletes International team for a volleyball series which will take place in Europe this June. Stops for the team, which was picked by Providence College coach Margot Royer-Johnson, will include England, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
According to a press release announcing Bowser’s selection, players are selected for this team based on two key elements: (1) their athletic ability and (2) their ability to represent their country, school and hometown in a positive manner.
“Tori is an excellent example of the type of athletic ambassador USA Athletes International seeks to bring into international competition.” stated Rick Mathieu, Volleyball Program Coordinator at USA Athletes International. “She is taking the opportunity to represent Pelham, Queens College, and her family as an ambassador for the sport of volleyball and the USA. Tori is definitely making the most of this opportunity and we are all proud to have her as a part of our program.”
Bowser was a member of both Pelicans teams that won sectional and regional Class B titles in 2011 and 2012, making the state finals in the former. During her rookie season last year, Bowser was named the rookie of the week in the East Coast Conference a league-best four times. She set program records at Pelham for blocks in a single season and career.
Ironically, when Pelham won in 2011 — its first section title in program history — its motto was, “Shock the world!”
