One of the saddest realizations I made following the completion of the season is that I now had to really think about who my players and coaches of the year would be, as well as my all-stars for Rockland and Westchester/Putnam.
Let me just start off by announcing that this year’s all-star packages will be running Friday, Dec. 5, so mark your calendars. We will be doing one player of the year, one coach of the year, five or six additional first-team all-stars, six or seven second-team all-stars, and additional honorable mentions (5-6 for Rockland; 12-14 for Westchester/Putnam, unless I hear different).
For the first time ever, we will also be running a fan-voted all-star team. That’s right — your votes, whomever the leading vote-getters are, will be printed in The Journal News and posted on lohud.com. Whenever I post polls seeking input, I have to put the disclaimer: “Poll results do not necessarily reflect the outcome of the results,” or something to that effect. Mostly because I don’t want people loading up votes for someone who is just barely on the ballot over someone who is a frontrunner.
Well, that’s not the case here. I have embedded polls in this post with a few names of girls I was considering for my all-stars and I want you to vote for them (or add your own player so people can vote for her). I will enable a feature that will allow you — the readers — to add names; all I ask is that you please look to make sure she isn’t already on the list. I really don’t want it looking sloppy with three of the same name on there. That’s just my undiagnosed OCD kicking in.
You can also email your picks (if you don’t want people seeing who is being voted on) to firstname.lastname@example.org. I will add the email results to the poll votes and post both totals on the blog when we run the final list. I’m assuming the poll will be pretty accurate, since I won’t expect a plethora of emails, but I’m also an honest guy, so you’ll have to make me at my word when I post the total tallies for each.
[Editor’s note: Voting is now closed. The results will be published in the Dec. 5 edition of The Journal News. Thank you to all who voted!]
